PROJECT:
FAA iTools

Client: FAA iTools Suite

Industry: Technical Support • IT Services • Digital Troubleshooting

Deliverables: Logo Suite, Color Palette, Typography Recommendations, Micro-Mark Set

Overview
iTools required a modern, scalable visual identity that could function effectively across digital environments, small-size use cases, and technical service contexts. The previous branding lacked recognizability, cohesion, and the flexibility needed for web, mobile, and software-adjacent applications.

Agency Mae developed a clean, geometric, technology-appropriate identity with a focus on clarity, minimalism, and adaptability. The resulting suite includes a primary logomark, wordmarks, micro-marks, and a balanced color system designed for high visibility and screen legibility.

Objectives & Outcomes

OBJECTIVES:

  • Create a recognizable, modern logo for an IT-focused service brand.

  • Ensure scalability from large digital display to small icon sizes.

  • Develop a visual system that signals clarity, simplicity, and tech-forward reliability.

  • Establish a cohesive brand foundation for future web or product use.

  • Produce 508-compliant, high-contrast assets for internal and public use

  • Develop visual variants for web, presentation, and print contexts

  • Build a color and typography system compatible with FAA brand guidelines

  • Produce application-ready assets for internal and external communications

  • Deliver a brand guide for consistent usage across teams and vendors

OUTCOMES:

  • Scalable visual system appropriate for future brand expansion.

  • Modernized Identity: Delivered a forward-looking, adaptable brand mark representing FAA’s innovation ecosystem

  • Cross-Platform Readiness: Designed assets scalable for web, mobile, and print applications

  • Accessible Design: Ensured all color and contrast ratios met federal accessibility requirements

  • User Adoption: Positive internal feedback and rapid adoption across teams and communication materials

Design & Strategy Approach

Agency Mae approached the project through its federal design systems methodology, merging creative storytelling with compliance-driven design.

Discovery & Research

  • Our team conducted stakeholder interviews with FAA program leads and visual audits of existing materials.

  • We analyzed the FAA’s master branding standards to identify opportunities for extension rather than disruption—ensuring our final design would align, not compete.

  • We mapped symbolic themes of flight, innovation, and connection—distilling them into conceptual sketches that balanced geometry, hierarchy, and clarity.

Design & Development

  • Agency Mae’s design team developed a modular icon built on intersecting lines and nodes, symbolizing interconnected tools and data systems within the FAA.

  • The typography combined authority and approachability: clean sans-serif for clarity, supported by subtle line weights that echoed technical precision.

  • Color choices were guided by the FAA’s blue foundation palette, paired with a high-contrast gold accent to signify active innovation and visibility.

  • All variants were tested against WCAG 2.1 AA standards to ensure accessibility across print, digital, and projection media.

Concept Development
The design direction focused on:

  • simplicity

  • strong geometry

  • modern symmetry

  • digital clarity

The form language was intentionally minimal, avoiding ornamentation to maintain long-term relevance.

Logo System Construction
The identity includes:

  • a primary icon with a balanced geometric structure

  • a horizontal wordmark for web headers

  • a stacked version for square layouts

  • a micro-mark designed specifically for 16–32px environments

  • dark, light, and reversed variants

All elements scale cleanly for digital-first usage.

Color Palette & Typography
A compact palette was created with:

  • a primary technical blue or teal

  • a contrasting deep neutral for structural support

  • light neutrals for backgrounds

Typography recommendations focused on geometric sans-serifs that support clarity and consistency in IT contexts.

Digital Use Optimization
Special emphasis was placed on how the logo behaves at:

  • favicon resolution

  • mobile app tile sizes

  • navigation bar scale

  • small in-line usage

Systemization & Delivery

We extended the visual system into a full identity suite:

  • Primary and secondary logos (horizontal, stacked, and monogram formats)

  • Color and type specifications

  • 508-compliant PowerPoint templates

  • Digital header and SharePoint banner assets

  • FAA-ready brand guide with usage protocols

The final system maintains legibility across all scenarios.

Deliverables & Impact

Deliverables included:

  • Modular logo suite representing interconnected data systems

  • Accessible color and typography guidelines

  • FAA-compliant digital asset repository

  • Brand guide with contrast-tested accessibility validation

Each deliverable reinforced the dual goals of clarity and compliance, ensuring the brand could scale across teams and adapt to future digital transformations.

The new identity provides iTools with a clean, scalable, and contemporary visual foundation suitable for IT services, support workflows, and future digital products.

The iTools logo project establishes a professional, flexible visual identity built specifically for digital environments and technical applications. The resulting system enhances clarity and supports long-term growth.

The FAA iTools brand now serves as a visual cornerstone for innovation inside the FAA, symbolizing connectivity, reliability, and forward-thinking technology.

Agency Mae continues to provide ongoing support for future brand extensions and UI adaptation.
